Family Law
Custody, divorce, khula and maintenance — handled with discretion and resolve.
Family Disputes Need Strength With Sensitivity
Family cases are about children and dignity, not just decrees. Handled badly, they scar everyone involved — especially the children. Handled well, they close a painful chapter and let people rebuild. That difference is not made by aggression; it is made by judgment about when to fight and when to settle.
The law provides a clear framework: dissolution of marriage through talaq or khula, custody decided on the welfare of the minor, maintenance for the wife and children, and dower — haq mehr — as an enforceable right of the wife. Knowing these rights precisely is what turns an emotional crisis into a manageable legal process.
Two mistakes damage more family cases than any opponent does: using children as leverage, and delaying or defaulting on maintenance. Courts see through both, and both weaken the very case they were meant to strengthen. We advise our clients plainly on this from the first meeting — even when it is uncomfortable to hear.
Our approach holds two qualities at once: firm on rights, open to settlement — and discreet throughout. We negotiate where negotiation serves you, and we try cases hard where it does not. Either way, your matter is handled quietly, without turning a private pain into a public spectacle.
What Our Family Practice Covers
Resolve with dignity.
Khula & Divorce Proceedings
Dissolution of marriage handled efficiently and discreetly — through khula or talaq proceedings, with procedure managed end to end.
Child Custody & Visitation
Custody and visitation arrangements centred on the child's welfare — the consideration the courts treat as paramount.
Maintenance
Maintenance for wife and children, including interim maintenance during proceedings — because rights delayed are rights denied.
Dower (Haq Mehr) Recovery
The wife's dower is an enforceable legal right, not a formality. We file for its recovery in full.
Settlement & Mediation
Negotiated resolutions — on custody schedules, maintenance and property — recorded as court decrees, so agreements hold.
Family Appeals
Challenging adverse orders in custody, maintenance or dissolution matters before the appellate forum.
How an Engagement Works
Confidential Hearing
Your story, heard fully and in confidence. The first conversation is about understanding — never pressure.
Rights Assessment
Where you stand under the law: on custody, maintenance, dower and dissolution — explained plainly, with honest expectations.
Filing or Negotiation
The court track or the settlement track — chosen with you, based on what serves your interests and your children's.
Decree & Compliance
Custody schedules honoured, maintenance enforced, decrees executed. We stay until the order works in real life.
Built for Difficult Chapters
Family law serves people at their most vulnerable. We act for:
- Spouses seeking khula or divorce — an end to the marriage handled with efficiency and discretion.
- Parents in custody disputes — arrangements built around the child's welfare, not the parents' conflict.
- Women claiming maintenance or dower — rights enforced, including interim relief where needed.
- Families who prefer a discreet settlement to a public trial — negotiated resolutions that hold.
The first conversation is confidential and without pressure. Many clients leave it simply clearer about their options — and that alone is worth the call.
Strength With Sensitivity
Family law needs two qualities at once — we hold both.
Discretion as discipline
Sensitive matters handled quietly, from the first consultation to the final order. Your private life stays private.
Settlement skill plus trial readiness
Negotiated where possible, fought where necessary. The other side's knowledge that we will try the case is what makes settlement work.
Principal-handled sensitivity
Asghar Ali personally oversees family matters — because these cases deserve the firm's most experienced judgment, not its most junior.

Common Questions on Family Law
What is the khula process?
Khula is the dissolution of marriage at the wife's instance through the family court, with reconciliation attempts built into the procedure. We prepare the case, guide you through each hearing, and manage the process to its conclusion — discreetly and without unnecessary delay.
How is child custody decided?
The welfare of the minor is the paramount consideration — above the claims of either parent. Courts look at the child's age, care arrangements, stability and best interests. We build the case around the child's welfare, because that is where these cases are won.
How is maintenance calculated?
On the basis of the needs of the wife and children and the means of the husband or father. Interim maintenance can be sought during proceedings so that the family is supported while the case continues. We press for realistic, enforceable orders.
Can I recover my dower (haq mehr)?
Yes. Dower is an enforceable legal right of the wife, and it can be recovered through the family court — whether prompt or deferred. We file for its recovery and pursue it to execution.
How long do family cases take?
It varies with the issues involved and the court's schedule. Interim relief — in custody and maintenance matters — can come relatively quickly, which is often what matters most. We move every case forward without seeking adjournments ourselves.
Can we settle without a long trial?
Often, yes. Custody schedules, maintenance amounts and property matters can be negotiated and then recorded as decrees of the court — giving a private agreement the force of a court order. We negotiate firmly and settle only on terms that serve you.
